ST. MARY’S ICSE – MAZAGAON:
TEACHERS’ ORIENTATION
June 6, 2014:
AVEC began its first session for the new scholastic year
2014-15 at St. Mary’s ICSE, Mazagaon with a Teachers’ Orientation program. Sixty
three teachers participated in the four-hour ‘Management By Values’ (MBV) program.
Thanks to Fr. Kenny Misquitta, Principal of the school for his warm welcome and
words of introduction
The session began with Mr.
Rochwyn introducing Fr. Glenn Lowe, Director AVEC and briefing the participants
on the various animating roles of AVEC to the schools affiliated to the ABE. A
prayer song, ‘Sarveshaam, Swastir Bhavatu’,
set the right tone to a day, that would be a moment of deep ‘soul searching’
for all. A small reflective awareness meditation animated by Mr. Fernandes, calmed
the participants
Fr. Glenn Lowe divided his session,
“Management By Values’ (MBV) into three smaller reflective moments: the need to
make Significant Qualitative Changes in life, the World and Attitudes of the
Young, and the necessary Value Shifts to be made to lead a Significant life’. All
through the sesion, Fr. Glenn touched on deep insights coupled with numerous
life situations and examples. A PowerPoint presentation accompanied the
interactive session.
The participants were invited to
look at their contribution as ‘educators of the young’ in a world that is
slowly becoming value-less. “Young people are looking for ‘significant others’
in their lives and it is the teacher to who has to compete for that space.
Otherwise, media would caputure that place and present values that are bound to
destroy the lives and society as a large”, he affirmed.
The value and power of ‘WORD’ was
stressed upon. As teachers, we are dispensers of words… words reflect our
values and our lifestyle. When we as teachers make te necessary value shifts in
our life, our words also change! Change your words and change your world! A
At the end of a four-hour long session, Mrs. Sharda Shukla
