DON BOSCO HIGH SCHOOL - YERWADA: STD IX-X VALUE ORIENTATION

DON BOSCO HIGH SCHOOL - YERWADA: STUDENTS' ORIENTATION
June 27, 2014
After a number of years, the students of Don Bosco High School - Yerwada were fortunate to have a Value Education Orientation program conducted by AVEC. Thanks to Fr. Donald Fernandes, the former principal for an early booking. Mr. Rochwyn Fernandes and Fr. Glenford were warmly welcomed by Fr. Lorenzo DSouza sdb, Principal of the school. A prayer song put the students into the right frame of mind right at the start. Two hundred and seventy students of STDs IX-X took part in the Value education orientation program.
Fr. Glenn Lowe, began his session with a call to have a 'perspective change and to get M.A.D'. His session, 'My Life: A Valued Journey' focused on twelve important values to live life meaningfully and in the process, Making a Difference! The personal testimonies of Kia Scherr, Ryan Hreljac, Malala Yousafazai and Fr. Glenn himself were truly inspiring and challenging. "In a world of today, when Hollywood and Bollywood present a negative set of values, it is important to be guided by a Value Compass", he said. He challenged the students to look at 12 important values to get on to the right direction in life.
With the help of a PowerPoint presentation, a lot of deep insights, personal examples and various moments of 'choices and consequences', the students were able to set their gaze on the importance of living a Value based life. The students were invited to look at their everyday life and to focus on the need to have a winner's attitude in life, to work as a TEAM, to focus on communicating their 'inner life'. to work on creative energies, to see the bigger picture, to be truthful with money, to live balanced life and to have an abundance mentality.
At the end of the session, a number of students came forward to write their comments in the AVEC log book:

We have learnt to live our life to the fullest. The line by Malala, 'one child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world' inspired me the most" -  Harshal Jorwekar X-B
"Thank you Fr. Glenford for your wonderful session. It was extremely inspiring and I shall remember it for my life time. "In life, Direction is more important than Velocity', is the quote that really motivated me and inspired too. It took me to a direction in life and to live and let live to the fullest, making use of all creative and innovative skills. This session is the one which molded me and also created a sense of awareness into me" -  Shraddha Kadgi X-A
"The session was indeed an inspiring session for all the students. We think that Fr. Glenn who gave us really very inspiring values of life which are essential to today's generation. You gave us a message of being M.A.D which can lead us to a better future. It enriched us with all motivating values. thank you once again" -  Neha Rewane IX-A

On a very personal note, I have been taking sessions for the last five years, spoken to over 20, 000 students, but I must confess, that this was the most disciplined class I have ever come across. I was also very impressed by the quality of good handwriting among the students. Congratulations and may God bless you all in every endeavor you take to make this world a better place - Fr. Glenn Lowe
