DON BOSCO HIGH SCHOOL - BARODA: TEACHERS' VALUE ORIENTATION PROGRAM
Baroda, June 10, 2013: At the invitation of Fr. Tony Pinto, Rector and Principal of Don Bosco High School and Junior College, the AVEC team began their programs for the new scholastic year 2013-14 with a Teachers' Value Orientation Program. Forty Nine teachers took part in the Orientation program that was animated by Fr. Glenford Lowe and Mr. Rochwyn Fernandes. Fr. Pinto warmly invited the teachers and the guests speakers to a very fruitful scholastic year ahead.
 Mr. Rochwyn Fernandes, then began the program with a Prayer song that immediately set the tone for the program ahead. The Prayer Song hope for auspiciousness, peace, health and wisdom for all. He then invited the teachers to some quiet moments of awareness and through a fantasy meditation was able to calm down many. 'Remember the world can be better because of you!", he concluded. Mr. Fernandes introduced Fr. Glenn Lowe, Director of AVEC to the participants.
Fr. Lowe, started his session by enabling the teachers to look at the world of the young and to identify important 'pain points'and to understand the role of the educator in reaching out to the students under their care. He then challenged the teachers to look at certain presumptions in their life and to reset their lives by aligning themselves to their personal and institutional core values. The ability to see with a new perspective enhances on to respond with a procedural change that is more effective and relevant too,
With the help of a PowerPoint Presentation, daily relevant examples, personal testimonies and a moments for a quick silent reflective time, the teachers were able to plot their personal and institutional values along the 'Tonna- Hall Value Map'. It was a moment for personal examination and a challenge to bring together their 'Focus, Capability and Will' and become more Value based in their lives. Most of the teachers found the session enlightening and an eye opener to make a personal choice to become more committed and focused in their role as educators of the young.
